Apple with Rainbow
Oils on canvas

Try to paint a rainbow. I think it must be the hardest thing to paint. It's there, but it's transparent and seems to take on some of the color of its surroundings.

This was difficult, as simple as it may look. I didn't solve the problem until I thought of one my favorite artists, Kawasi Hasui. Hasui did no oils.  His some 600 pictures are woodblock prints. In most of these he outlines the objects in his scene. "Ah Ha! Why not", I thought.

Starlings with Busquits
Oils on canvas
5 x 7"

Tiny painting. My interest was to see how much could be expressed in oils in so small a size. I've seen artists attempt this, but they usually present a simple everyday object. My intent is to give some meaning to my work beyond the ordinary.
