All we have is Justice Alito. Before the thing started I voiced to my wife the opinion that the other guy should shout again his "You lie!". Justice Alito's quiet response was even better. After all, he's a gentleman. Words have a specific meaning. The "president" knows he can get away with lies just as his friend/enemy questioned what the meaning of the word "is" is.

In Marine Corps boot camp one's individuality is -- but can't be -- taken away. One comes out still himself. The purpose is appropriate in this sense: the American military (particularly the Marine Corps who insist on a moral code) must focus on the group. I.e., the unit's love for the individual's watching out for each other. It seems a contradiction. No. Honor is courage in action -- paraphrasing Ayn Rand.

I do not call this entity my "president". Yes. "...a defense of America is so desperately needed." One must fight on two fronts: the intellectual -- AND the physical. Too often in the past Objectivists have renounced the latter in favor of Education. Now we're seeing the craziness of Education as it would take a hundred years or more. Our today is urgent. Individuals can be self-taught. The word is getting out.

America is so greatly unusual that as pessimistic as I am I hold out promise that too many Americans still see through the lies and we'll destroy this "presidency" before it destroys us.

Thank you. I won't stop fighting even as I might be dying.

Justice Alito was great during the State of the Union, which may be fubared beyond all redemption, but I would have stood up and cheered if the Supreme Court justices, well at least five of them, got up and walked out of congress at the unjustified public scolding handed to them by the President. "With all due respect to the separation of powers" was what the President said, I wonder if words have any objective meaning to the President? Listening to the talking heads later, the President's opinion of the judge's ruling is actually wrong. After a while my wife turns this stuff off, as she fears I am going to have a stroke due to the rage she can sense building in me listening to all this bilge being troweled out disguised as "the truth".
I have to think that this has got to end like basic training has been described to me, a complete tearing down of what the recruit thinks of himself, and a ground-up rebuilding of what the recruit actually has become. Maybe our country needs something like that. The danger lies in what you have identified, when you were in Marine basic training, your DI had a compelling interest in making you into something both of you could be proud of--a Marine; The President, and the entities who support his policies and ideals, seek to ruin this nation, and rebuild it into something like a fourth Reich. Dr Peikoff's Ominous Parallels was written something like twenty years ago, and when I read it, it frightened me, but it seemed so far in the future that I thought I was just being silly. Now, staring the very naked and very evil premises in the face, a defense of America is so desperately needed. Many are fighting, but they must fight for the right things. I am hopeful, but have given up on building a life that is better than my parents had, and am trying to give my children a fighting chance at survival, and any grandchildren a chance at having a life I once had. This nation has faced darker times in its history and the country survived, but I do not think it has had more incompetent and outright hostile leadership like this before. When associates of The President of the United States say OUT LOUD that they want to ruin our system of government, and the President does nothing to distance himself from those people-- well, your post says it better than I can. Thank you for standing for America. I am certain that your brethren stand with you. That image, Marines standing together, on the ready, is comforting on those night when I stare into the dark unknown future.

killercig,

Thank you. Never would have known about e-cigarettes.

Why not post it on my last post on smoking if June 24, 2009? I think smokers in America would love to know about it.

Best to you and your wife,

Robert

Thank you Gordon, old friend. Thank you for seeing Twain's view.

Also, there's evidence of the harmful health issues, but not proof! Just propaganda.

And there's another good quote from Twain: "It's easy to quit smoking. I've done it a hundred times". I can relate to that. I quit smoking from 1979 to 1988. Took it up again. Then quit for a year to the day from June 1, 1995 to June 1 1996. Took it up agian for a year and then quit again for one full year.

To me, it's all an attempt to rule one's personal life; his choices--by government control.

Best to you,

Robert
