  A Novel
by Ben Reed

My Dying Breath is the tale of Tuck Richard (REE-shard), a gravely wounded Marine, who looks back on the journey that has whisked him and his friends from the Cajun country of south Louisiana, hardened them through the rigors of training, and flung them into the jungles of 1969 Vietnam. Struggling to survive the elements and a wily enemy, Tuck, Donnie-Boy Hebert (AY-bear) and Johnny Robert (ROH-bear) drive unwittingly toward a tragic showdown with the infamous Col. Pham Van Bui.

This NVA super-patriot, however, must survive enemies from within — his teen-aged nephew, Pham Thuc Trai, who seeks revenge, and a veteran Eurasian, Louie, who is trying to escape the futility of war.

The Vietnam War, of all our wars, is the least understood and appreciated. Ben Reed conveys to the people of America images that, for many of us, will be our first uncluttered look at what happened to our fighting men on the ground, while at the same time depicting what was happening among the enemy and on the home front.

The Vietnam War, in all its dimensions, has never before been so honestly portrayed. Ben Reed is one of the few authors who can convey the true essence of war. In My Dying Breath, he brings the reader so close to the physical and emotional action, that he can smell the cordite and feel the pain.

"Warfighting shows how to use the Marine Corps's battle strategies
of strength and straightforwardness to manage your way to victory in
every confrontation, whether at a corporate, departmental, or personal level."

This book, at only $2.95, has the entire text of the "Declaration of Independence".

This author, Stephanie Gutmann,  is not kind to what has happened to the U.S. military during Clinton's reign.  And good for her.  She writes:  "Follow the lead of the Marines...and go back to separating the sexes in boot camp....And stop grandma-izing of boot camp.  Get used to it.  This is training designed to prepare people for the battlefield."

The author writes:  "Preventing law-abiding citizens from carrying handguns does not end violence; it merely makes victims more vulnerable to attack."

This book will open your eyes to the, believe it or not, parallels between Nazi Germany and the possible future of America.  Very difficult book because it's the philosophy of history.  Yet very readable.  The 17- page chapter "The Nation of the Enlightenment" is such a beautifully written tribute to America that it's worth the price of the book for that alone.

See reviews of this book here:  The Ominous Parallels

The Bridge at Dong Ha is the real story of a Marine Corps hero, John Walter Ripley, winner of the Navy Cross in Vietnam for his action depicted in this book.  A small book about how much one man, working alone, can accomplish through courage, ingenuity, and skill.  Illustrations by Col. Charles Waterhouse, USMCR (Ret.)

A Comprehensive Guide to the Firebases, Military Installations
and Naval Vessels of the Vietnam War - 1945-1975

"Mike Kelley has done everyone who served
in Vietnam a great service with his monumental research
for WHERE WE WERE. Veterans and military historians alike
will benefit from his Herculean efforts to nail down precisely
WHERE everything was and WHERE everything happened
in America's long war in Vietnam. If you can't find it in these
pages, it can't be found.
